Formalities Polka Dot braces are the best of both worlds as you can choose to use the strong metal clasps or change them out for leather straps and trouser buttons (not provided in pack). You can even put the buttons on one pair of pants and still use the clasps for your other pairs.
These are an Y-Back arrangement with a leather cross over at the back.
